Qualcomm Eudora 5.x for Windows

Eudora is an alternative mail client made for both Microsoft Windows (all current versions) and Mac OS 8.1 and greater. There are two ways to run Eudora: in Sponsored Mode and Paid Mode.

Sponsored Mode leaves a small window open within Eudora that displays advertisements, and allows Eudora to be used without paying. Paid Mode lets the user run the full version of Eudora without any advertisements, and costs US$39.95.

If you wish to download a copy of Eudora, simply visit http://www.eudora.com/, and follow the ‘Download Now’ link from the front page. You will need to install Eudora in order to continue.

To set up your Texas Broadband e-mail account

There are two ways in which you can configure you e-mail account:

Adding a new account manually
  1. To add an account manually, you will need a current installation of Eudora. Once you have the program open, look on the left hand side of your screen. At the bottom of the top window, there are a number of tabs. Look to the far right, where there are two heads:

  2. Click on that tab to bring it to the front. Your screen should look similar to the one above, although you may have more accounts and may be running Eudora in Paid Mode, as opposed to Sponsored Mode.

  3. Once you have brought this tab to the front, right-click somewhere on the white section of the tab, and select ‘New’ to create your new e-mail account.

  4. Since we are creating a brand new account, you want to keep the top option selected, then click ‘Next’.

  5. In the next screen, you simply need to name the account we are adding – calling it something akin to ‘TexasBB Account’ makes the purpose fairly clear.

  6. To continue setting up your account, skip ahead to the instructions where the wizard and the manual instructions run through the same steps (below).

Using the Wizard – a fresh install of Eudora

  1. When you run Eudora for the very first time, you will be asked if you want Eudora to be your default mail program. If you plan on continuing to use Eudora, click on ‘Yes’.

  2. Next you will be asked about registration. If you wish to run in Sponsored Mode, simply click on ‘OK’. If you would like to purchase Eudora, you can click on ‘Tell Me More’, and read through the screens on registration.
  3. Once this has been done, you will be presented with the Wizard. Click on ‘Next’ to continue.

*** From this point on, the wizard and the manual setup will run through the same steps.

  1. You will be presented with a number of options. Since you will be creating a new account, keep the top option selected, and click on ‘Next’ to continue.

  2. You will be prompted to put in your full name. This is the name that appears in other people's “In” boxes. Once you type in your name, click on ‘Next’ to continue.

  3. Next you enter your Texas Broadband e-mail address. Click on ‘Next’ to continue.

  4. In this screen, you will need to fill in the login name used to access your e-mail account. This is your e-mail address from above – so if you used ‘alancox@texasbb.com’ as your e-mail address, your login name will be ‘alancox@texasbb.com’. Once you have filled in your username, click on ‘Next’ to continue.

  5. For the next screen, your incoming mail server is mail.texasbb.com, and it is a POP server. Click “Next”.

  6. Your outgoing mail server is smtp2.sjc.newedgenetworks.com. We do not do outbound SMTP authentication, so the checkbox in ‘Allow authentication’ can be unchecked. Click “Next”.

Congratulations! Eudora has now been configured to read your e-mail. Just click on ‘Finish’ to continue. Continue on to the ‘Retrieving Your Mail’ section to find out how to download your messages from Texas Broadband.

Retrieving Your Mail

Once you have your account set up, retrieving your messages is as easy as clicking the download button on your toolbar. Four buttons in from the left, you will see a message box, with an envelope pointing downwards into it. Simply click on this button, and your newly configured Eudora will check your Sentex account for any e-mail messages you may have waiting for you.

If you want to set up Eudora to check your mail at a certain time intervals, click on the ‘Tools’ menu, then select the last entry, ‘Options’. Once in there, select the second icon from the top, called ‘Checking Mail’:

Where it says ‘Check for mail every xxx minute(s)’, simply enter the frequency which you would like Eudora to check your mail. If you only want mail to be checked when you are connected to the Internet, make sure you check off the ‘Don’t check without a network connection’ box; otherwise, Eudora will dial-up every time it wants to check the mail.

Saving your Password

If you would like Eudora to remember your password so you do not need to enter it every time you check your mail, click on the ‘Tools’ menu at the top of the screen, then select the final entry in the menu, called ‘Options’. From there, click on the second uppermost icon, ‘Checking Mail’:

Near the bottom of the screen, there is a checkbox called ‘Save password’. Simply checking this, then clicking ‘OK’, will cause Eudora to remember your password after the next time you enter it.
